Andrew Bean is a Senior Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO and Deputy Director of Catalysing Australia’s Biosecurity (CAB), where he helps steer national biosecurity innovation from scientific invention through to real‑world impact. An internationally recognised immunologist, his work spans vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics for high‑consequence infectious diseases, with particular expertise in influenza and host–pathogen interactions. Andrew has a strong track record of translating discovery science into practice, reflected in influential scientific publications, patented technologies, and contributions to vaccine and intervention pipelines. He is deeply embedded in Australia’s biosecurity ecosystem and maintains extensive national and international networks across government, industry and academia to support coordinated, mission‑driven responses to emerging threats. A clear and trusted communicator, Andrew is also a committed mentor who supports the next generation of scientists while connecting science, innovation and practice to strengthen Australia’s biosecurity preparedness.
