Matt Field

Associate Professor Matt Field is a bioinformatician and an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow (EL2) at James Cook University in Cairns. He holds a PhD from the ANU in medical science and has fifteen years’ experience leading large genomics projects. Previously, he led bioinformatics teams at the Genome Sciences Centre in Canada, and Biomatters in New Zealand, where he managed commercial software development. At JCU he founded and now co-directs the Centre for Tropical Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology, a strategic centre with >100 members. His team focuses on developing analysis workflows to support large multi-omic data sets across a variety of research areas including human health and population genetics.
